Choosing a shoe size can be difficult. Each shoe manufacturer can vary in measurement for shoe size due to using different shoe lasts (mold of shoe). Below is a shoe size chart that converts US shoe sizes to heel-to-toe length measurements (in inches and cm), EU & UK sizes. The heel-to-toe length measurements are based on the Brannock device.

Not sure how to measure your heel-to-toe length? We have 3-step instruction guide here to help.

What's the difference between US and EU shoe sizes?

The main difference between the US and EU shoe sizing is the units of measurements and scale. While both sizing systems are used to determing the length of the shoe, the US shoe size is based on inches or centimeters, while the EU shoe size is based on centimeters.

The US shoe sizing system uses different scale for men's and women's sizes. The EU uses a unisex sizing system so an EU 37 would be the same length for both men's and women's shoes. However, a US 8 would be a different length, usually 1.5 sizes larger for men's compared to women's.

What's the difference between US and UK shoe sizes?

The main difference between US and UK shoe sizing is the unit of measurement. The UK measures shoe sizes in barleycorns (approximately 1/3 inch). Since the unit of measurement is different from US shoe sizes (inches and centimeters), the shoe sizes are different.

Similarly, both US and UK shoe sizes are different for men and women, with men shoe sizes being larger in size.

Will I be the same shoe size in every shoe style?

Not necessarily. Shoe sizes can vary by style and manufacturer. Shoes can fit differently per style due to a variety of reasons including: manufacturing processes, materials used, shoe lasts, manufacturing tolerances, and foot shape.

Manufacturing Process - Shoe brands have different quality control standards and machinery when manfacturing shoes. This can create a slight variation in the size and shape of the shoe.

Materials Used - Depending on the materials used for the upper and lining of the shoe, the fit can vary. A leather upper or more rigid material may have less conformity to the foot and feel tighter compared to a mesh or stretch material.

Shoe lasts - Since shoe manufacturers use different shoe lasts (the mold of a shoe) the shape of the shoe can vary, affecting the fit. The width and toe box area may feel tight or loose on your feet depending on the last or shape of the shoe.

Manufacturing Tolerances - When shoes are mass produced there are acceptable sizing tolerances that can cause slight differences in the length and width of the shoe.

Foot shape - Foot shapes can be unique to the person which can affect the fit of a shoe. A person with a narrower or wider foot or a higher instep (middle of foot) can make the same size feel different on individuals with the same heel-to-toe length.
